Languages contribute to a learner’s personal development and enrich Australian society as a whole. Forty-two countries are totally or partially French speaking and it is the second most common language taught in many countries. Year 11 French Units 1A/1B 1AFRE/1BFRE Unit 1AFRE/ The focus for this unit is le monde des jeunes (the world of youth). It introduces students to the French language and culture from a personal perspective, enabling them to share information related to personal identity, aspects of everyday life, and popular culture. They begin to develop an understanding of what it is to be French and French-speaking, and compare their own lives to those of others in French-speaking communities. Unit 1BFRE The focus for this unit is la Francophonie (the francophone world). It is aimed at students who have a basic knowledge of French. This unit extends their knowledge of the French-speaking world while at the same time sharing information about, and developing a sense of their own space and place. Year 12 French Units 2A/2B 2AFRE/2BFRE Unit 2AFRE The focus for this unit is c’est la vie! (that’s life!). It is for students who have sound basic skills in French and are ready for further development. Students will compare their own culture and identity with that of their peers in France. They share information about their health, their free time and future plans. Students will explore notions of national or regional identity, and other forms of culture specific to France. Unit 2BFRE The focus for this unit is voyages (travel). It is aimed at students who are ready to develop their skills to a higher level. They interact with French speakers in either Australia or France and begin to view their own culture from the perspective of a French-speaker. They share information about where they have been and where they hope to travel in the future. |
